Sustainability advice for the Petrakerk in Veenendaal: a future-oriented approach

The Petrakerk in Veenendaal, a prominent building with an important role in the local community, has recently taken an important step towards sustainability. In cooperation with Green Cadance, a comprehensive customized advice was drawn up to make the church more energy efficient, comfortable and future-proof. This advice was tailored not only to the unique characteristics of the building, but also to the needs of the church congregation.

Analysis of the existing building

The Petra Church is a distinctive building with architectural value. Like many churches, it struggles with high energy costs, poor insulation and outdated systems. A thorough survey of the building revealed several areas of concern: the facades and roof are insufficiently insulated, the heating system is outdated, and there is potential for generating renewable energy through solar panels.

An integral and feasible approach

Green Cadance drew up an integral sustainability recommendation based on a phased approach. Key components of the advice include:

• Insulation of roof and facades while preserving architectural features.
• Replacement of the current heating system with an energy-efficient heat pump combined with low-temperature heating.
• Placement of solar panels on the non-visible part of the roof, so that the appearance of the building is preserved.
• Smart control of climate systems, tailored to the changing use of the church hall.
