CO₂ reduction plan for Prins Petfoods: working together towards climate-neutral production
Realisation in Veenendaal (NL)

For pet food producer Prins Petfoods in Veenendaal, Green Cadence had the opportunity to work on an ambitious and future-oriented project: developing a CO₂ reduction plan for the production site. A company that makes sustainable pet food deserves a production process that reflects the same responsibility. And this assignment makes a concrete contribution to that.
Ambition and urgency
Prins Petfoods has sustainability firmly embedded in its mission. The family business is aware of the impact of production processes on the climate and therefore did not want to wait with action. Its question to Green Cadence: Map out how we can reduce our plant’s carbon emissions – practical, substantiated and achievable.
From data to direction
Working closely with Prins’ technical team, we analyzed energy consumption, emissions and operational processes on site. Among other things, we examined:
- Gas consumption for process heating and building heating
- Electricity consumption for machinery, dryers, ventilation and lighting
- Potential for electrification and utilization of waste heat
- Potential for renewable generation (solar panels, heat pumps)
Using RETScreen Expert software, we were able to compare various options for impact, feasibility, cost and payback time.
Strategic roadmap
The result: a concrete CO₂ reduction plan with short-, medium- and long-term measures. Consider:
- Optimization of existing plants and processes
- Phased electrification of heat supply
- Use of sustainable energy on our own premises
We presented the plan to management, with an eye for both strategic choices and practical implementation.
From plan to implementation
With this plan in hand, Prins Petfoods has a solid foundation on which to realize its sustainability objectives and grow towards climate-neutral production.
